Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society

Applications Now Open

The IEEE Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society is launching the NPSS Intern Project, a mentored leadership-development opportunity for students, postdoctoral trainees/fellows, and early-career professionals interested in becoming actively involved in NPSS Technical Committee activities.

Eight interns will be selected—one for each NPSS Technical Committee (TC) — for a two-year term. The NPSS internship program is currently open for the 2026-2028 term, beginning August 20, 2026.

Selected interns will work with a TC mentor, participate in TC meetings and activities, and complete a leadership-engagement project aligned with the TC’s priorities. Interns will also be eligible for up to US$2,000/year for two years in travel support to attend one approved TC-related annual meeting per year.

Eligibility: Applicants must be Master’s or PhD students, or postdoctoral trainees/fellows or early-career professionals in academia or industry, and within 10 years of completing their highest educational degree. IEEE NPSS membership is not required at the time of application, but selected candidates must become IEEE and NPSS members before appointment. Current elected members of NPSS TC Executive Committees or elected/appointed members of the NPSS AdCom are not eligible.

Applicants must select exactly one NPSS Technical Committee and submit:
• completed Application Form
• current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• 500-word narrative statement
• contact information for two references
Application deadline: July 20, 2026, 5:00 p.m. ET
