Administrative Committee (AdCom)
The Administrative Committee of the NPSS facilitates all of the activities of the society. The first activity of record in this field was the formation of a Nuclear Studies Committee in the IRE in 1947 to determine the proper role of the IRE in this new technical field. Subsequently, in 1949 a petition was filed for the formation of a Professional Group on Nuclear Science, and it was approved on April 5, 1949, with L. R. Hafstad as Chairman. On April 29, an organizational meeting was held. The membership at that time consisting of 54, increasing to 970 by the end of the year.
Today NPSS has between 2500 and 3000 members. AdCom consists of five officers, eight editors, twelve functional committee chairs, eight technical committee chairs, fifteen elected members and fourteen liaisons. It meets three times each year to conduct business. The first meeting in the year is an extended retreat, where strategic plans are discussed.

Fields of Interest
The Fields of Interest of the Society are the nuclear and plasma sciences and related emerging technologies.
Areas of technical activity include: computer applications in nuclear and plasma sciences; fusion technology; nuclear and medical imaging; radiation instrumentation; radiation effects; particle accelerator science and technology; plasma science and applications; pulsed power science and technology; and nuclear power instrumentation and control systems.
Strategic Plan
Initiative Submission Forms
Each year NPSS funds strategic initiatives. Initiatives can be for one, two or three years (no longer however), and a completed Review Form must be submitted for approval at the beginning and for each successive year. Initiatives start January 1 and are funded for that year. Our Finance Committee reviews and ranks all initiatives, and our Administrative Committee (AdCom) approves funding for each.
